UAE Government Backing Anchors Big 5 Global's Dubai Return

Ministries and municipal regulators anchor the 47th edition's policy agenda

Big 5 Global returns to Dubai in November under the formal support of three UAE government bodies, a structure that underscores how closely the country’s institutional agenda is tied to the built environment sector. The 47th edition of the construction and urban development event for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region runs from November 23 to 26 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, with backing from the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism and Dubai Civil Defense.

The institutional anchoring extends further through the list of supporting partners: Dubai Municipality, The Department of Municipalities and Transport, Ras Al Khaimah Municipality and Riyadh Region Municipality, alongside the Italian Trade Agency as headline partner and TALCO | Saudi Made as strategic partner. Further sponsors include Trojan Construction Holding as construction delivery partner, KEZAD Group as integrated freezone sponsor, National Industries Park as global industrial sponsor, United Motors & Heavy Equipment as construction mobility sponsor, Dubai Investments Park as sustainable development sponsor, Midea as HVACR World strategic partner, Toshiba as HVACR World Premium systems sponsor, MIE Groups as gold sponsor, and DeWalt, The Nemetschek Group and Stanley as bronze sponsors.

The regulatory dimension gets dedicated attention this year. New for 2026, Big 5 Talks will introduce Building Codes & Regulations Talks addressing the regulatory frameworks driving construction and development, an addition that reflects growing scrutiny of the rules governing how projects across the region are designed, approved and delivered. The broader talks programme spans AI, concrete, architecture, geotechnical, HVACR, facility management, project management, sustainability, geospatial technologies and building information modelling, and will also feature Startup City Talks and a pitch competition, Let’s Talk Fire by ESL, buildingSMART Talks and ASHRAE Trainings.

Meanwhile, the event’s stated priorities map directly onto policy agendas across the region. This year’s four key themes, Supply Chain Resilience, Technology Advancement, Sustainable Transformation and Future-Ready Workforce, are framed as responses to government-led economic transformation programmes including We the UAE 2031, Saudi Vision 2030, New Kuwait 2035 and Oman Vision 2040. Together with urbanisation and infrastructure development across MEASA, these programmes are driving long-term investment and sustained demand across the construction value chain, from building materials, HVACR, construction tools, MEP, interiors and finishes.

Josine Heijmans, Senior Vice President at dmg events, the event’s organizer, described an opportunity whose nature is shifting. “The scale of development planned across the MEASA region creates significant opportunity for the industry, but the nature of that opportunity is evolving,” she said, noting that projects are becoming increasingly connected across disciplines spanning technology and building systems, supply chains, sustainability and workforce capabilities. She added that Big 5 Global brings these perspectives together, giving the industry access to the products, partners and insights influencing how projects are delivered, while creating space for senior leaders to address wider priorities.

That leadership dimension is formalized through three Leadership Summits: the Big 5 Global Leaders’ Summit, the LiveableCitiesX Summit and the Big 5 FutureTech Summit. These sessions unite leaders, innovators and city-makers for executive-level discussions around policy, investment, technology, delivery and livability, positioning the event as a venue where decisions at the highest level sit alongside the product exhibition floor. The exhibition itself connects the full project lifecycle, from building materials, interiors and finishes to MEP, construction tools and equipment, digital construction, geospatial technologies and facilities management, through seven specialized events: Heavy, Totally Concrete, Marble & Stone World, Urban Design & Landscape, HVACR World, GeoWorld and Future FM.

The international footprint carries institutional weight as well. Exhibitors from more than 60 countries will participate, with over 20 country pavilions including Austria, Italy, Germany, Oman, Greece, China, Morocco, UK, Türkiye, Spain, Russia, Egypt, Portugal and South Korea. Italy’s presence is particularly strong, with more than 100 Italian companies participating through the Italian Trade Agency. Valerio Soldani, Trade Commissioner to the UAE at the agency, said Italy sees the Middle East as a region of significant opportunity for its construction and built environment companies, particularly as markets undergo rapid transformation and investment decisions accelerate. He noted that with more than 110 Italian companies represented, the agency is reinforcing its commitment to supporting the region’s development while creating opportunities for Italian businesses to engage with key decision-makers, and that its involvement extends to the leadership summits.

By contrast with the policy-level framing, the exhibitor floor is a commercial proposition. Participating companies include Anchor Allied, Soudal, Eternal Home, Zamil Steel, Framecad, Mahy Khoory, Dutco Tenant, Astral, SKM, Honeywell, Rheem, Premier Construction, RIB Software, Nemetschek, DJI, Liebherr, Bauer, Doosan, SANY and DeWALT. First-time participants for 2026 include Doosan Engines, Einhell and Reynaers. Organizers cite the event’s decision-maker density as a measure of its commercial function: in 2025, 77% of attendees identified as decision-makers and attendee spend accounted for $3.34 billion.
